How to write a masters thesis: ordering your self-preparation
- Tip #1: Eat a light snack. You will function better if you have food in your stomach because you won’t constantly be thinking of food or questioning whether you should break for a snack. But when you snack as you study it is important to have a good mixture of:
- Carbs
- Fats
- Protein
- Tip #2: Stay hydrated. Being dehydrated is terrible for your body and yet so many people do it regularly. It will leave you fatigued and unable to focus on your work. Your body will struggle to get hydration as you struggle to complete your assignment.
- Tip #3: Exercise Take small breaks as you study. Try a few minutes every hour. During these breaks it is important that you get up and move around. Whether you are sitting still at a desk or in front of a computer you need to move around to avoid cramping. Your body’s natural creativity is rejuvenated with exercise which is why it is so important. With exercise you can improve your blood flow which increases blood flow to your brain and makes it easier for you to concentrate on your assignment. This leads directly to...
- Tip #4: Get sleep Your brain needs sleep the same way your body needs exercise. If you don’t get adequate sleep you will not be able to finish your assignments. If you did not sleep well the night before and you need to finish your homework now you might consider taking a twenty minute nap before you start the assignment. It is amazing what a simple nap can do for you. But it should be no longer than 20 minutes because if you exceed twenty minutes your mind will go into the start of the REM cycles and waking will leave you groggier than you were before.
- Tip #5: Work on little pieces at a time Make an outline or a list of the things you need to do and start working on one thing at a time. Instead of letting yourself become overwhelmed too quickly regarding the workload it is best to do one item at a time and then move systematically to the next item. Your brain will be able to dedicate its entire focus to the single assignment at hand instead of getting distracted by other things and this will ensure your work is completed faster.
